Edward Lewis (Richard Gere), a successful businessman in LA on a trip for work, stumbles upon Vivian (Julia Roberts), a prostitute…and eventually falls in love. He hires her to be his escort on some business-related activities, including taking her to see La traviata, which moves her to tears.
