Pittsburgh Opera has decided not to present its New Year’s Eve gala this year.

“Though very popular with a core group of supporters, we have decided to devote our resources towards other initiatives,” said Pittsburgh Opera General Director Christopher Hahn.

Pittsburgh Opera has been producing the New Year’s Eve Gala at the Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland since 2009. The event successfully raised money for Pittsburgh Opera’s mission, but rising costs were squeezing margins and distracting from many other activities.

Pittsburgh Opera is redirecting additional resources to its two primary galas, the Diamond Horseshoe Ball, which occurs each September, and Maecenas XXXIV, on May 12, 2018. Maecenas, consistently hailed as one of Pittsburgh's "Top Ten” parties, will be at Pittsburgh Opera’s headquarters in the Strip District.
