Biography
Stage Director Stephanie Havey is a first-year Resident Artist with Pittsburgh Opera. In 2011-12, she is scheduled to be the Assistant Director on La traviata, The Pearl Fishers, Hansel & Gretel, Tosca, and The Abduction from the Seraglio. Additionally, she is the Director of The Pearl Fishers Student Matinee, Auld Lang Syne III, Cabaret, and Maecenas XXVIII. Ms. Havey has done extensive work with young singers, incorporating dance and modern movement as a means of expression and discovery for singing actors. Ms. Havey has worked on the artistic or production staffs at opera companies such as The Glimmerglass Festival, Sarasota Opera, Virginia Opera, Nashville Opera, Opera New Jersey, Shreveport Opera, Orlando Opera, and the Lyrique-en-Mer Festival in Belle-Ile, France. She has also directed numerous collegiate productions. Ms. Havey’s 2007 production of Gluck’s Orphée et Eurydice was awarded 2nd place in the National Opera Association’s Production of the Year Contest. During her tenure as the Opera Outreach Coordinator for the Florida State Opera for the 2005-2006 season, Ms. Havey directed two updated and condensed operas as outreach to middle school students. From 2007-2009, she served as the Director of Opera Workshop at Middle Tennessee State University, Tennessee State University, and Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville.
