A native of Wilmington, Delaware,
Carolyn Betty has degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and
The Curtis Institute of Music. She has performed the Nanny in Dominic
Argento’sMiss Havisham’s Fire
and Annina in La Traviata
with the Opera Theatre of St. Louis. She returned to St.
Louis in 2002 to sing the First Lady in The
Magic Flute. Ms. Betty will also perform the role of Anna Maurrant
in Street Scene with Wolf Trap Opera, and Annina
in La Traviata for the Opera Company
of Philadelphia. She has
received both the 2000 Richard Gaddes Award and the 1998 Barbara and Stanley Richman Award
from the Opera Theatre of St. Louis. Recently, Ms. Betty placed first
in the Mid-Atlantic Region of the Metropolitan Opera National Council
Auditions. Other roles include the title role in Samuel Barber’s Vanessa,
Fiordiligi in Così fan
tutte, Rose in Street Scene and Sadie in Floyd’s
Slow Dusk.
