Krzysztof Kowalewski won first prize in the
2000 Connecticut district
audition for the Metropolitan Opera National Council and is a laureate
of the Ada Sari International Vocal Competition
in Poland.
He has won scholarships from the Kościuszko
Foundation, including the Bonczak award.
Mr. Kowalewski
began his operatic career in Poland
in 1996 as Masetto in Bydgoszcz
Opera Nova’s production of Don Giovanni. He performed at the
International Music Festival in Caramoor,
New York where he sang the role of
Giorgio in Rossini’s La GazzaLadra, and at the MusicAcademy of the West in Santa
Barbara where he portrayed the role of Arkel in Debussy’s Impression de Pelleas.
His oratorio credits include Handel’s
Messiah with Hartford Symphony; Mozart’s Requiem with Orchestra
New England; Bach’s Magnificat with
Fairfield County Chorale and the Yale Camerata ; Bach’s Kantata 140
and Vivaldi’sMagnificat
with Old Lyme Choral Society ; Stravinsky’s
Les Noces with The Yale Camerata.
Mr. Kowalewski earned his master’s degree from the
Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw,
Poland and from
the Yale School of Music where he studied with Richard Cross. With Yale
Opera he has portrayed Mephistopheles in Faust, Colline
in La Boheme, Papageno
in Die Zauberflöte, Escamillo
in La tragédie de Carmen and has sung
leading roles in scenes from Don Quichotte, Il BarbierediSiviglia, Le Nozzedi Figaro and Les Contesd’Hoffman.
