GET EXPERIENCE
Young professional artists gain an edge in their careers with Pittsburgh Opera Center’s world-class training. Last year, ten young artists were selected by audition from nearly 400 applicants from around the world. After completing advanced education, young singers accepted into Pittsburgh Opera Center’s program add top-notch professional experience to their career qualifications. In addition to performing principal roles in two fully staged Opera Center productions, young artists cover principal roles and frequently perform comprimari roles in Pittsburgh Opera productions each season.

GET TRAINING
Under the artistic direction of Christopher Hahn, young artists will expand their talents with coursework in language, diction, voice, repertoire, acting, and movement classes. With access to resources like pre-professional training and career development services, vocal coaching, career management counseling and master classes with operatic legends, young artists get the support they need in order to experiment and to learn and grow as artists.

GET TO KNOW THE BEST OF OPERA
Young artists learn from the best teachers and performers in the business. Curtis Institute's Mikael Eliasen, Metropolitan Opera coaches Craig Rutenberg and Susan Webb and the extraordinary voice teacher Marlena Malas round out an intense course of study and rehearsals with their valuable insight and unique styles. These amazing talents join a list of Pittsburgh Opera Center coaches over the years including Renata Scotto, Beverly Sills, Regina Resnik, Regine Crespin, Franco Corelli, Luciano Pavarotti and Sherill Milnes. Singers who have benefited from Pittsburgh Opera Center's world-class training include Marianne Cornetti, Rolando Villazon, Maria Zifchak and Oren Gradus.

Pittsburgh Opera Center presents new productions of La clemenza di Tito by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on December 13, 15, 2002 at the Kresge Theater on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University, and Kurt Weill's The Threepenny Opera on February 22, 23, 26, 27, 28 and March 1at the Brew House in Pittsburgh's South Side.
