The George R. White Opera Studio

Uses: Presentations, productions, receptions or dinner parties

Capacity: 400 for a cocktail reception; 350 in theater-style seating; 200 for a dinner reception.

Square Feet: 5,000 (approx. 116' x 48')

Rental: $375 per hour; $1,300 for 4 hours; $3,700 daily rate

As of January 1, 2021, our rates will be: $400 per hour; $1,450 for 4 hours; $4,000 daily rate

Available for additional costs: stage, tables, chairs, piano, stage lighting, audio equipment, music stands.

All rentals will be charged a $200 staffing fee and a $150 cleaning fee. All rentals with over 300 participants will be charged an additional $100 cleaning fee.

Founders' Room  

• This room has use of a kitchen

Uses: Meetings or receptions

Capacity: 100 in theater-style seating; 50 for a dinner reception.

Square Feet: 1,920 (approx. 40' x 48')

Rental: $200 per hour; $650 for 4 hours; $1,600 daily rate

As of January 1, 2021, our rates will be: $250 per hour; $750 for 4 hours, $1,800 daily rate

Available for additional costs: stage, tables, chairs, piano, stage lighting, audio equipment, music stands.

All rentals will be charged a $200 staffing fee and a $150 cleaning fee. All rentals with over 300 participants will be charged an additional $100 cleaning fee.

Green Rentals

Pittsburgh Opera is LEED© Silver certified in the Operations and Maintenance category, and we encourage you to make your event green. Planning a Green Event takes a little more time and effort, but the rewards to the environment and your organization are great. You will have the satisfaction of knowing that you have conserved resources, reduced landfill waste, and shown a commitment to preserving a sustainable quality of life for our community and our world.

Making environmental considerations part of planning for events can make a significant difference in the amount of food, paper and packaging waste generated. Environmental consideration can also result in significant energy savings. More and more businesses are seeing environmental event planning as a cost-effective measure, in addition to creating good public relations and contributing to overall sustainability.

Pittsburgh Opera reduces its rental rates by 10% to all participants willing to host a green event. All participants will need to document the following to Pittsburgh Opera through invoices and receipts:

• Catering must be from a local, sustainable source (within 100 miles)
• Use reusable utensils, dishes and glassware
• Use reusable linens and napkins
• Recycle (events must arrange for volunteers to monitor recycling efforts)
• Use spoons instead of stir sticks (for coffee or alcohol)
• All paper products should be 30% post-consumer recycled content or more

Optional:

• Send out electronic invitations
• Arrange for composting
• Arrange for leftover food to be donated to a local food bank
• Donate floral arrangements after event
• Arrange for shuttles to get participants to the event

• Do I have to use certain vendors for my wedding? 

No. Pittsburgh Opera has no requirements about vendors, so you can feel free to use any caterer, DJ, photographer, etc. that best suits your budget and taste.

• What is your alcohol policy?

You are responsible for bringing in your own alcohol for the event, if desired. Our only stipulation with the bar is that, due to PA liquor laws, you cannot sell alcohol on site, so the bar must be an open bar.

• What parking is available at your space?

There is a small, 24-spot parking garage in our building. Parking is available only on a first-come, first-served basis, so the number of spots available will vary from event to event and is NOT guaranteed. Other options include on-street parking, which is free in this part of the Strip District, or the surface lot next to Mullaney’s Harp and Fiddle at 24th and Penn (parking fee is currently $8).

• How far in advance do you book?

Many events are looking at our space up to two years before the actual event. Our calendar fills up very quickly, especially for Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. If you want to have your event here, our suggestion is to contact us as early as possible and be as flexible as possible with your date selection.

• When can I set up an appointment to see the space for myself?

We normally show the space by appointment on weekdays between 9:30 AM and 4:00 PM. However, we can schedule meetings on certain Saturdays. If you would like to make an appointment, please contact Sean Holsing by e-mail or by phone: 412-281-0912, ext. 229.
