Pittsburgh Opera will have its inaugural Summer Camp July 10-21, 2023

The Camp, called Bravo Academy, is designed for high school students who are interested in opera and other performing arts.

Participants will receive invaluable hands-on experience with leading industry professionals and performers. Each instructor is a specialist in their field, selected to offer participants a broad, accurate view of the world of opera.

All participants will take fun and engaging classes, participate in exclusive workshops with Pittsburgh Opera staff, engage in master classes with industry luminaries and master teachers, and more. The classes include:

  • Opera Fan Fiction
  • Opera in Motion
  • Opera Culture
  • Behind the Curtain
  • Opera Achievement
  • Improv Acting
  • Opera Scenes

Space is also available for participants interested in scenic/costume design, stage direction, and various other creative and production-related performance elements.

Bravo Academy will culminate with a final, professional showcase performance by the participants at the Bitz Opera Factory on Friday, July 21st at 7:00PM. Each performer will show off the skills they’ve learned in a scene selected especially for them. Family and friends of the participants can attend.

“We are excited to launch this camp that will explore opera, musical theatre, and crossover music,” says Pittsburgh Opera Director of IDEA Initiatives and Community Engagement Rebekah Diaz. “Whether you’re already an opera fan or have never heard an opera in your life, this camp will be an absolutely fantastic, unforgettable experience.”

Bravo Academy will take place at Pittsburgh Opera’s headquarters the Bitz Opera Factory at 2425 Liberty Avenue in the Strip District. The two-week camp will run from 9:00AM to 5:00PM each weekday from July 10th through 21st.

The camp has a $550 registration fee. Payment plans and financial aid are available.

Participants can sign up online at pittsburghopera.org/BravoEnroll or by contacting Rebekah Diaz at 412-281-0912 x256. More information is available at pittsburghopera.org/bravo.

Bravo Academy is supported, in part, by the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council through its Allegheny Arts Revival Grant and by the National Endowment for the Arts.
