Auditions
Pittsburgh Opera holds auditions for principal roles, chorus, orchestra, supernumeraries, and the Pittsburgh Opera’s Resident Artist Training Program on a regular basis.
Principal Roles
Pittsburgh Opera conducts general auditions every December in New York City and by appointment in Pittsburgh. These auditions are not associated with any future repertoire but are for general purposes only.
To be considered for an audition, please send a cover letter, resume, photo and/or recording to: William J. Powers, Director of Administration and Artistic Operations, Pittsburgh Opera, 2425 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 or by e-mail.
We regret that we are not able to audition all who submit materials and only selected applicants will be contacted for auditions. Applications are accepted from both represented and non-represented singers.
Chorus
Annual open chorus auditions will be held, by appointment only, usually in mid-May, in the Pittsburgh Opera offices, located at 2425 Liberty Avenue in the Strip District.
Classically trained singers in all voice categories who have completed at least one year of undergraduate vocal study may schedule an audition appointment. Auditions are 5 minutes in duration and an accompanist is provided. Applicants should enter the 25th Street entrance at Liberty Avenue.
Requirements: one memorized aria or art song sung in Italian, French or German, sight-reading and vocalization. Singers should bring a one-page performance experience resume; headshot is optional. Applicants are required to provide proof of United States citizenship, permanent residency or legal permission to work in the United States.
To schedule an audition: applicants should send an email to Chris Powell, Music Administrator, with their resume and contact information. Times are assigned on a first come, first served basis.
